The L’Ivoire Raw Silk Bag
Les Thèmes first in-house bag design—L’Ivoire is a study in craft and restraint. Each piece is individually sewn using luxurious raw silk sourced from the Italian garment industry in Milan. Woven in India, the material possesses the subtle irregularities and luminous depth unique to silk’s natural fibers, its lightly iridescent surface recalling the glow of mother-of-pearl.
Entirely hand-crafted by Rebecca Goddard, the design is defined by hidden construction techniques that allow the silk to fold inward upon itself, creating soft edges without visible exterior seams. Delicate hand-finished stitching secures each handle, while an internal double-compartment construction lends both structure and organization without compromising the bag’s lightness and form. Between the outer and inner layers of silk lies a hidden layer of organic cotton, lending the bag its gentle structure, reassuring weight, and resilience while remaining entirely invisible from both the interior and exterior.
Its proportions have been considered to hold the essentials—a smartphone (including larger Pro Max models), keys, a slim wallet, and a few favorite beauty musts. Lightweight and easily stored flat within a suitcase, it becomes an effortless companion for travel, transitioning seamlessly from daytime to evenings. Architectural yet remarkably feminine, L’Ivoire reflects a philosophy of balance and reduction: holding everything needed, and nothing more—inspired by the notion that true luxury is often found in carrying exactly enough.
